6.3.20 “Pirates of the Curry Bean” Enterprise

By Rory

“This week we’ve been working on our Pirates of the Curry Bean Enterprise and everyone is involved in different teams.

The marketing team has been working on an advertising poster.  This will be ready to go on display on Monday (9th.)

The ticketing team has been busy designing the tickets for each performance, with a Google Sheet (spreadsheet) to keep track of the number of tickets sold for each one.  Some people were very busy delivering receipts today. The lottery for third tickets will take place next week!

The fundraising team has been working on the raffle and competitions (Guess the name of the teddy and the number of sweets in the jar) and deciding on what the prizes will be.

The costumes and props team are busy making, painting and sewing as many costumes and props as possible, as well as trying to source some from our families and the community.  The Highland Council cleaning department is lending us lots of mops!”

Miss Mullin says: “And none of this could happen without all the hard work and support from every single grown up in the school too!

Merci beaucoup!”

5.3.20 STEM Celebration at Eden Court

Last Thursday, 6 P7s from our VEX IQ Robotic Team represented Glenurquhart Primary School at the above event.  Pupils presented a showcase of Science, Technology and Digital work completed this session including the VEX IQ Robot.  They also took part in a range of STEM challenges set up by the sponsors, BRISTOW.

Huge thanks to Miss MacDonald for all the behind the scenes preparations, and to Mrs Russell for accompanying the P7s on the day.

2.3.20 Fairtrade Fortnight

Last Monday, P7 viewed a short film about forest friendly cocoa farming called “Guardians of the Rainforest” https://schools.fairtrade.org.uk/resource/guardians-of-the-rainforest/

The P7s made notes and used them to create an advertising poster for forest friendly Fairtrade chocolate.

This formed part of our work for #FairtradeFortnight 2020, which has a special focus on cocoa farming this year.

25.2.20 Clarification Questions

On Tuesday 25th February, we welcomed Ms MacKay back, to do some work on asking clarification questions. We role played situations where the teacher mumbled part of the instruction, or used words which we did not understand. We practised asking the teacher to clarify, by explaining the word or phrase, or repeating the instructions.

Steak Pie

A HUGE thank you to Mrs Laird and Mr Christie for their fantastic cooking lessons. Everyone in P7 has thoroughly enjoyed them.

We had our last cooking session today with our final groups adding their pastry to the steak pies we started making yesterday. Everyone has now completed Salmon and Noodles, Lasagne, Stovies, Pizza and Steak Pie. We’ve had great fun while doing it. Next week we’ll consider all the things we’ve learnt since starting the cooking project. Have a look at our recipes on the page above and see if you can have a go at home!
